California Telehealth · Statewide by Secure Video

Online therapy for parents in California.

Online therapy for parents in California with Amanda McBee, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), is parent-focused video therapy for mothers and fathers anywhere in the state, offered in person in Rancho Cordova and by secure telehealth across California, with Folsom and the Sacramento Metro East area also served.

Parenting can leave you feeling exhausted and second-guessing yourself, and the logistics of getting to weekly therapy can make it harder to start the work in the first place. I see clients across California by secure video, with the same parent-focused clinical depth I bring to my in-person sessions in Rancho Cordova. This is therapy with a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, not a corporate teletherapy platform.

Who I work with via telehealth

The parents I see via video are usually located somewhere in California outside of easy reach of my Rancho Cordova office, including parents in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Diego, the Central Valley, and rural Northern California. They are working on the same kinds of patterns I work on in person: anxiety, codependency, boundaries and relationship dynamics, identity shifts in parenthood, and the patterns from their own childhood showing up in how they parent. Many of them have tried a corporate teletherapy platform first and want more clinical depth than that experience offered.

What telehealth therapy looks like with me

Telehealth sessions look very similar to in-person sessions, with the same 50-minute structure, the same integrative, evidence-based approach, and the same focus on the patterns underneath the day-to-day stress. I use a HIPAA-compliant secure video platform, and you can join from anywhere in California with a private space and a stable internet connection. I draw on cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, Brainspotting, schema therapy, solution-focused work, and a person-centered baseline across both telehealth and in-person work.

When telehealth is a good fit, and when it isn't

Telehealth is a good fit when you have a private and reliably quiet space at home or at work, when scheduling and distance make in-person therapy hard to sustain, and when you are doing therapy as an outpatient, non-crisis level of care. Telehealth is not the right fit when you are in active crisis, when you cannot consistently find a private space, when significant body-aware trauma work would benefit more from in-person attention, or when you have a clinical picture that may require a higher level of care, in which case I can usually point you toward the right next step.

Common questions

Common questions about online therapy.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

For most outpatient therapy work, research and clinical experience both suggest telehealth is comparably effective to in-person sessions. Specific modalities, including parts of EMDR and Brainspotting, can sometimes benefit from in-person work, and I will be honest with you if I think a particular piece of the work would go better in the room.

Do you work with clients outside California?

No. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California, I can only see clients who are physically located in California at the time of session. If you live in another state or travel frequently, that boundary is non-negotiable.

What equipment do I need?

A laptop, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a private space where you won't be interrupted for 50 minutes. Headphones are recommended for privacy.

Can my partner join a session?

My primary work is individual therapy with the parent. Occasional partner inclusion is sometimes appropriate; this is something we talk about openly as it comes up.

Do you take insurance?

I am out-of-network with insurance. I provide superbills you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement, depending on your plan's out-of-network mental health benefits.

Where are you located, and what areas do you serve?

My office is in Rancho Cordova, and I also see parents in person from Folsom and the Sacramento Metro East area. By secure telehealth I work with parents anywhere in California, so you can meet from home no matter where in the state you live.
